Turn These IKEA Lamps into Speaker Mounts to Keep Your Computer Speakers Out of the Way

One of the problems with keeping a good set of speakers on your desk is that they often take up a lot of otherwise usable space. This IKEA hack, on the other hand, gets your speakers up off of your desk surface so you can use the space and showers you with sound at the same time.
To do this yourself, you'll need a set of IKEA TERTIAL work lamps with flexible necks. They're only about $9 USD, and can be mounted directly to your desk surface wherever you want to place them. You'll need to remove the light assembly from the lamp, bend the metal plate on the fixture so it's flat and you can put your speakers on top, and then you'll have to affix your speakers in place with small screws in the back or bottom (Bill Dwyer, who sent the hack in to IKEA Hacks, suggests using drywall anchors to keep the screws in place in the back of the speakers) to keep them on the arm.

In the end, it's not a lot of effort, and the most you'll need to make it work aside from the lamp is a good cordless drill and a set of speakers you don't mind modifying. When you're finished, you'll have flexible speakers you can position wherever you like. What do you think, would you do this with your speakers, or do you have a better way to keep them out of the way? Share your thoughts in the comments.
